MBON Announces Reimbursements on Overcharge Fees

(Maryland Board of Nursing, Baltimore, MD) – The Maryland Board of Nursing is to compile a list of the Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants who have paid fee increases that were collected in error.

The Board increased fees by $25.00 for Endorsement and Exam Applications on January 1, 2007. On April 1, 2007, a $10.00 increase for Renewal Applications went into effect. The Board promulgated regulations for the fee increase and believed the emergency regulations were in place. Last month it was discovered that the fee increases had not yet been approved. The fee increases are tentatively scheduled to go into effect on August 27, 2007, but the increased fees paid prior to that date will need to be reimbursed.

Executive Director, Patricia Ann Noble, has stated that the fees in error affect approximately 28,000 nurses. The Board is compiling the information necessary to refund the overpayment.
