Effective January 27, 2012:  Please be advised that the disclosure of your Social Security Number or Federal Tax Identification Number is mandatory in order to process your application.

Any license or certificate application(s) received at the Maryland Board of Nursing without either a Social Security Number (SSN) or Federal Tax ID Number WILL NOT be processed.  Applications without these numbers are incomplete.

The Board is required by federal and Maryland law to collect this information for the following purposes:
  • Verification of identity with respect to final adverse actions related to your license or certificate (42 U.S.C. § 1320a-7e(b))
  • Administration of the Child Support Enforcement Program (Md. Family Law Code Ann., § 10-119.3)
  • ​Identification by the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation of new businesses in Maryland (Md. Health Occ. Code Ann., § 1-210)

Please understand that if the Board receives your application, but it is incomplete because there is NO Social Security Number or Federal Tax ID Number, your application WILL NOT be processed and WILL BE returned to you.

Where is the Board of Nursing?

The Board of Nursing is located at  4140 Patterson Avenue Baltimore, MD. 21215. It is at the Patterson Avenue end of Reisterstown Plaza, accessed by an outside entrance on the Home Depot side of the Plaza.

How will I contact the Electrology Committee?

What Electrology schools are in Maryland?

Please see the list of Approved Electrology Education Programs - https://mbon.maryland.gov/Pages/electrology-approved-ceu.aspx​.  Consult the American Electrology Association (AEA)  for some programs.  Maryland requires 200 hours of classroom and 400 hours of practical traiing. A program will not be approved until you apply to take the exam. 

What are CEU requirements?

Complete 10 clock hours of Board approved CEUs by October 28th of each year of licensure. Provide the committee proof of completion for licensure. CEUs may be obtainaned each year in the following areas:
  1. 3 CEUs in the areas of business management
  2. ​3 CEUs may be in CPR
  3. ​3 CEUs may be in First Aid
  4. 4 CEUs by home study
  5. 4 CEUs in alternative therapies
  6. ​4 CEUs by lecture or published article

When do I renew my license?

You will receive a renewal notice prior to expiration of your current license. LICENSES ARE RENEWED YEARLY BY OCTOBER 28.

What about laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is under the Physician's Board and not approved for Electrologists at this time.
